The Jekyll Island Club Wharf

Come for the food, stay for the sunset. The Jekyll Wharf Marina is located on the west side of the historic district, situated on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and overlooking the mainland. The wharf is more than just a fully-functioning marina, with two restaurants occupying the far side of the boardwalk: Latitude 31 and the Rah Bar. Both restaurants are technically one in the same, with the Rah Bar catering to the lunch and 5 o’clock crowd on the outside, while Latitude 31 is a more conventional dining experience located indoors.

Each establishment has reasonably-priced food, considering their location. After all, we are talking about eating in the Jekyll Island Historic District. If you’re looking for lunch options comparable to a location on the mainland, I would suggest checking out the Dairy Queen on Ben Fortson Parkway (the main road coming in, just past the bridge on the left).

One can never go wrong at Dairy Queen, but personally I still have a major hold-up with that particular establishment: No butterscotch cones. Unbelievable. Come on Dairy Queen, you guys need to get on this one.

Dock Office Gift Shop, Jekyll Island, Georgia

The Dock Office Gift Shop is located at the end of the pier, right next to the outdoor seating of the Rah Bar. The gift shop is modest, but there’s some pretty cool stuff on the inside, from beach-themed home decor to Jekyll-themed koozies for your six pack of . . . sodas. The gift shop also doubles as a small office where you can book dolphin tours, scenic tours, and all kinds of tours, courtesy of Captain Phillip’s Charters and Tours. You can check out their website by clicking here, or give them a call at (912) 635-3152.

The Jekyll Island Club Wharf, Jekyll Island, Georgia

The Jekyll Island Club Wharf is the perfect place to wrap up a day of hiking, biking, or just strolling around the historic grounds of Jekyll Island. It’s a great location to view the setting sun towards the west across the Intracoastal Waterway, just behind a foreground of marshes and water, right from the end of the pier.

It’s not uncommon to see photographers and travelers pacing the boardwalk around dusk, trying to catch various perspectives of a perfect sunset across the coastal landscape of Jekyll Sound. It’s also hard to go wrong with a bar right there on the dock and open for business, and a great location to kick back with a beer (or two) while you’re watching the sunset over the mainland. Not a bad way to call it a day.
